Today I've been reading a lot of fic in a number of my favourite tiny fandoms, and being bunnied for the most ridiculous things (Valdemar fic? Why do I suddenly have a bunny for Valdemar fic?!), and traipsing in and out of Yuletide archives both old and new, and I noticed a trend: These small fandoms are fandoms where I yearn for more fic, but am convinced that I absolutely cannot write it. I need it, but I just can't produce! It seems unfair from both ends -- as a reader, and as a writer. Alas.

Does anyone else have this problem? I propose we call these Read Only Fandoms. :D What are yours? (All mine seem to be both small and book-based; anyone have a large or media-based ROF?)

Over on Dreamwidth: (Anyone interested in reading/rereading the Foreigner series along with me?)

Never heard of it, but like science fiction? I posted a brief summary here, and am happy to provide further details/information for the undecided!

Comments left ON for this entry, because it wouldn't be starting immediately, and I would be completely willing to include LJers!

Being in a very book-intensive mood lately, craving science fiction and wishing I had time to reread Foreigner in its entirety, and feeling excited to have discovered another fan of the series in [personal profile] feuervogel (who is awesome, and keeps tantalising me with mention of her novel-to-be, a space opera sort of adventure), I'm wondering if anyone else out there likes this series, or was intrigued by the idea, and would like to read/re-read along with me?

I'd especially love to turn it into something with drabbles being produced, perhaps once or twice per book; but even just making progress posts and letting me babble in your ear about squee-worthy moments would be awesome.

I'd also be amenable to a Chanur Saga group-read, if 10 novels is a little daunting to anyone as a first effort!

This likely wouldn't be an immediate thing, either (my RL is so busy right now it's not funny), so if you're overloaded right now but interested, we can start at any convenient time! Maybe next month?

Come to that, does DW have a sci-fi discussion type community? *off to check*

Shame on me for not posting yesterday, but by the time I got off work I was exhausted; I fell into bed without even showering, and woke up with Snape hair (heh), but otherwise much refreshed.

After talking about my own experiences with science fiction and fantasy yesterday, I thought I should make today's post more interesting for you-the-reader by talking about what I've read and liked lately! For a given value of "lately" that includes pretty much any time in the last couple years, anyway.

Below the cut: two sci-fi and two fantasy recs; two male and two female authors )

Fellow sci-fi and fantasy readers, what have you read and liked lately? Reading and access list, what would you like to see me give recs for? (More military SF? Urban fantasy? More high fantasy? Either, from female authors? Novels with great aliens? Novels with great female protagonists?) Or I'm also happy to elaborate on any of the above, whether you want funny excerpts, warnings/triggers, or just a better plot or character summary!

I think I'd like to participate in Three Weeks For Dreamwidth this year! I need some kind of external motivation to post more. :D

In that vein, I'd love prompts from any of my lovely flist (okay, okay, "subscribers" -- it sounds so pretentious considering how few there are!).

Personally, I'd planned on doing at least one "rec one thing that you normally wouldn't" post, where I can point to awesome fandoms/fics/something that is outside the bounds of my usual fannish activity. Possibly a Request-A-Drabble day, if anyone would actually request one given my eclectic mix of fandoms. I'm not really sure what else -- photo meme? A list of all the tea in my cabinets? Some kind of discussion/essay about one of my RL hobbies? Plea for employment? Re-posting of old reviews, perhaps grouped into batches according to theme/time/something else?

What would you like to see me do? This is your chance to see Fer-de-Lance perform on command!

(Yes, I'm crossposting this to LJ. It's not 3W4DW yet, and after the three-week period I'll be crossposting here, so if my LJ friendslist would like to see Lance perform, they're just as welcome to suggest things as my DW friends; they'll get to read it eventually!)
