Anime rewatches

All I seem to want to watch lately is anime series I've already seen. This month I have rewatched Princess Jellyfish | Kuragehime, Yuri on Ice, and Ouran High School Host Club.
For someone who rarely watches more than 2 hours of anything per week, this is a lot! Some kind of switch must have been flipped in my brain, somewhere.
YOI remains adorable and I love all of these characters a lot. It's also so very short - I couldn't believe it was the end already when I hit the final episode.
Kuragehime is a delight, though I found myself more than ever wishing for an updated anime version that covers all of the manga. More plot! More characters! That twist at the end! As a thing in itself, though, I love the show a lot; the character designs are great, the theme and ending music is enjoyable and appropriate, and I like the voice actor choices. There's really nothing big that I would change, except to expand the plot bits that got simplified, and to continue it on through the manga ending.
OHHSC was somewhat frustrating this time around. Have you ever enjoyed something a lot, but there were one or two bits you really disliked... then, over time, you find more and more things that bother you about it?
That was my experience with Ouran. There's still things I like about it, but I found myself struggling with more elements that irked me than I remembered there being. My tolerance for Tamaki was particularly low this time. (I knew long ago that I was never, ever going to read the manga, because Tamaki/Haruhi is my NOTP - a thing I didn't think I had - and at least the anime doesn't canonise it! I've also resigned myself to being the only Ouran fan who doesn't dream of a Season Two ever happening.)

Date: 2021-02-25 02:31 pm (UTC)I still love Haruhi a lot! I love Hikaru and Kaoru, too, and even Kyoya. (Look, we're pretending That One Episode didn't happen, right? That's pretty much just how this fandom works.) But I had little patience for Tamaki at the start, and it's lowered with every rewatch.
I'm reaching the point where there's a heavily edited version in my head and it's much better than what I'm watching. Guess it's time to start a list of Episodes To Avoid on Next Rewatch!
