Alas for the laptop! What a disappointing saga, both for me and for it.
I'm left-handed, so touchpads are miraculous. Back in the Dark Ages when I got my very first laptop, I spent about a fortnight laboriously using my right hand on the touchpad, because I was in the habit of using my right hand for mice. Then the utter absurdity occurred to me: I have a hand that is great at dexterity and precise movements, so why am I using the clumsy hand for this task requiring and precision? XD I switched and never looked back.
As a bonus, since I use a mouse on my work computer, it helps avoid repetitive motion problems - right hand for work computing, left for home computing, so each one gets more rest than it would otherwise.
Since the touchpad broke I've been using a mouse, but the first one died after about 6 months, the second died in 3 months, and upon having to buy my third mouse in a year I was goaded into checking on the possibility of repair. It's definitely making my hand and wrist unhappy to be using a mouse so continuously. I suppose this means a new laptop is much closer to the top of the 'future purchases' list than I thought.
