I started to post, and then realised: I draw a distinction between 'mythical' and 'supernatural,' and I was thinking of the former.
Mercedes Lackey is probably to blame for it, but my favourite mythical creature is the gryphon! (Or griffon, griffin, gryfon, etc.) It's a bit funny, because I don't love most of the "glue half of this to half of that" options out there - centaurs, satyrs, chimerae (outside of Fullmetal Alchemist!), and their patchworked kin don't do much for me.
Why are gryphons different? A great deal of that comes down to the best efforts of Lackey and other fantasy authors of my childhood, who created gryphons that were unique fantasy creatures instead of a hodgepodge of Real Animal Parts.
In a low-key way, I collect gryphon-themed items - mostly books, small figurines, and jewelry.
