the AO3 fic meme

kraitVia what seems like half my reading list, I give you: my top ten three stories according to their hits on the AO3 Archive. Shortened to three because I only have 7 works up anyway, and four of them are sonnets in an old, old fandom, which means they never get hits. :D
1. Pears in Peril, Pears in Peace (Hits: 152.)
Fandom: works of Ursula Vernon.
Written: Yuletide 2010.
Erm, this one was probably the most-hit because it was part of the Yuletide collection? And possibly because, being based on a painting, you can pick up the main canon in thirty seconds? I don't know, but I had fun writing it (despite doing so on an airplane, mostly): I tried to incorporate some sly references to her other works, as a bonus for fans (and because I am a huge fangirl), Vernon's own love of anthropology and folklore, and my personal love of xenofiction.
2. Likeness (Hits: 59.)
Fandom: Loveless. (Pairing: Soubi/Nisei)
Written: June 2009.
59 is much more my usual sort of hit count; you can see now why I suspect the Yuletide label was what sprung work #1 up to its current 152-hit glory. :D
This was a weird story, really -- written for a kink meme that was completely dead, with a pairing I had never even considered, including a character I don't like, and using the disliked character as the POV character. Oh, and said POV character does his level best to hide his emotions even from himself... a thing I discovered while writing.
Being a kinkmeme story, "Likeness" never got a beta-reading (or even anything except a second glance-over from me, months after posting the rough version), so I'm honestly not sure how well it worked, but who on earth could I ask to beta an old story with a bizarre pairing for a kinkmeme so ancient even the technical recipient never knew her prompt was filled?
3. Wait For It (Hits: 50.)
Fandom: Loveless. (Pairing: Kio/Soubi)
Written: December 2007.
Remember how I said the kinkmeme I write "Likeness" for was ancient? This fic was written for the same kinkmeme. ...Yeah.
On the one hand, this is not my favoured pairing in Loveless (I'd prefer Soubi/Ritsuka or Soubi/Kio/Ritsuka); on the other, I adore Kio beyond all reason and so I'm not too terribly surprised that this prompt made me write for it. :D Pretty much pure smut (with a side of Kio being awesome and mature and sweetly adorable), I am not too surprised it's the only one of my fics someone has bookmarked on AO3 -- between the pr0nz and the somewhat popular pairing, it's the most mainstream thing I've written. (Why, why, why do the odd plotbunnies always bite me? If I read the sort of thing I wrote, I'd never have any fic to read!)
