sometimes you just have to set goals

kraitI ran across this the other day.
I of course have not read the Homestuck canon, though I do read fic; and I was pretty happy with that state of affairs for quite a while. However, I've actually started to have crazy optimistic thoughts about writing in this fandom... and maybe even drawing, which has never been a talent of mine. There's just something about this fandom (the large number of Tumblrs with amazing fanart?) that makes my fingers itch to dig up some coloured pencils and give it a go, however disastrously it will probably end. (This could also just be one of those random artsy moods that strikes me every few months, rather than a fandom thing; we'll see.)
I can't write without knowing canon, but my understanding is that canon is HUGE at this point, and I just do not have the time to devote to it. Given I've spent three nights out of the last four having vividly intense dreams involving tense quadrant-shifting relationships, and have read virtually everything on AO3 under the Moirallegiance tag, and have started glimpsing OCs lurking in my hindbrain, and am even toying with leaving a few prompts on the kinkmeme... Yeah, I can safely say that my involvement with this fandom is rapidly reaching the point where I'm not going to be satisfied just reading. (I found a piece of fanart today with headshots of all the main characters. I can identify every one by name and colour and symbol. Well before that point I could have named, defined, and explained the romantic quadrants and their relation to Troll Reproduction 101.)
I'm definitely dying to do rec lists for all my favourite characters, too; another thing I'm not entirely comfortable doing without knowing canon.
Long story short: between this and my growing desire to do more than just read in this fandom, I'm putting "obtain Homestuck canon" on the list of presents I'm going to give myself when I turn thirty. Scary number is scary.
That gives me a suitable time window for the RL things plaguing me, as well as allowing me to deliberately thumb my nose at the secretmaker. :D
Oh man oh man if I ever try to write Dave!fic I am going to need a beta like never before. I will need the BEST BETA EVER, because I am so not cool enough.
