WorldCon completed! Hugo Awards watched! Home again with cats!

The awards were enjoyable for the most part ("five million years," hahaha!) but at times made me feel very far behind: I don't think I've read a single one of the winning works/authors, except technically a couple. (A book I bounced off of hard enough not to have bought anything else by the person since, or similar; not the works on the ballot.) Part of this was certainly my fault! I'm going to guess that I told myself, Ah, yes, next week when I have a bit more time I'll download my Hugos packet! when I registered and then promptly forgot it existed till I was sitting in the auditorium going, 'Wait, wasn't I supposed to have all these?' Oops. Although come to think of it, there might have been a format issue behind my downloading delay.

I also had a few moments of annoyance when it seemed like the same 3-5 people were finalists for a dozen different things, and they were all authors who are pretty well-known already; I enjoy seeing new names on the ballot even if it turns out I have read none of them. :D

Other con-related reading notes:
* finished my reread of Foreigner
* got about halfway through The Lost Tales and Other Writings
* bought 2 more Foreigner novels (speaking of being behind!)
* impulse-bought a book about a magical PI
* picked up flyers for two different upcoming cons, one featuring Ursula Vernon as a guest and the other Steven Brust

All in all, a grand time and far too short! Now, back to the laundry...

Worldcon

Worldcon continues! I met up with [personal profile] owlmoose the other day and had a great time.

Looked out the window a bit ago and it was suddenly pouring rain, which was not exactly unexpected given how grey and cloudy it was when I woke up; I overslept by an hour, probably because it was so dim outside.

Yesterday I attended lots of panels, including a great one on Translation as Creative Writing that was delightful; it was held at 7:30 in the evening, and was sparsely attended (one panelist said the Worldcon gods hated translation, as this was the second panel they'd been on that was at the very end of the day) but very interesting and a lot of fun; the panelists were great and had a lot of very interesting stories and information about translation as both as job and a writing exercise.

This morning I trotted down to the Art Show to see if I had won anything, but alas - it wasn't open yet, and its opening coincided with the first panel I want to see, so I guess I won't be claiming any artwork yet.

Later today I have a meetup with other internet friends, and then plenty of other panels to occupy me, though I'll try to reach the Art Show at some point, and will almost certainly go back to the Dealers Room as well, to stare conflictedly at two necklaces that I've been staring at for days. :D

After only minor* difficulties, I have reached Worldcon. \o/ I have attained a badge, an art show bidder number, and a hotel map, and am currently dining (on Cup Noodles in my hotel room). Whee!

Hoping to meet up with various virtual friend groups at some point, so if you're here, feel free to reply or shoot me a PM.

*Definitions may vary. Suffice to say, I believed there was a shuttle to the hotel, and there was not. So I reached the convention about two hours later than planned, after a train ride and a walk of several blocks (and one small incidence of asking directions).
