wishlist, at last
Nov. 22nd, 2006 05:17 pmThis took me a while! I suppose it's a good thing that I have trouble coming up with ten things I really desire, but in the end I decided I would like:
1. Celtic/New Age Music -- I love Enya and Loreena McKennitt, but they're virtually the only ones I have! Any sort of Celtic music would be lovely; I'm fond of ballads, and traditional songs like "Danny Boy," too, so any music along those lines would be wonderful, too. Plus I adore bagpipes and panpipes and vocals and poetry set to music and, erm, you get the idea. :D I'm currently in love with Heather Dale's "Mordred's Lullaby," and would adore you forever if you somehow sent me (all or some of) the rest of the CD it's on (The Trial of Lancelot)!
Downloads, files via email, or physical copies through snail mail are all perfectly fine by me; I have no downloading skillz and thus I have no idea how to find music for myself, so any way you want to send it to me is perfectly brilliant. :D
2. Books 1=8 of Hermaphrodite -- I doubt anyone's going to give this to me, (though if they do I'll love them forever!) but hopefully someone can tell me where to order it from! Who has the best price and most reasonable shipping costs? Is there any place I definitely *shouldn't* order from?
3. Click for Charity -- one click a day, totally free. Animal Rescue, Ecology Fund, and Poverty Fighters Microcredit -- note that the first two have links/tabs to other charities, and go click them, too! :D A minute out of your day helps make a difference.
4. Embroidery Thread -- It's cheap, it's pretty, and I make six thousand different things with it! I always need embroidery thread, in any colour you've got handy. Want to buy me new skeins? Fantastic! Have some left over from another project that you don't need? I'd love that too! All my leftover bits too short to make something out of are put out, in the spring, as bird nest material; I hate waste. :D
5. Jewelry -- I don't expect anyone to rush out and buy things, but if you have any size-7-to-8 rings that don't fit anymore, or necklaces you never wear, I'd love to have them. Shiny things make my day better, and I just don't have the money to spend on them right now.
6. Give stuff away rather than tossing it -- Go to www.freecycle.org and find a group in your local area; start one, if there's not one already! Who doesn't have something lying around that they wouldn't miss, and that someone else would really appreciate (especially at this time of year)? If you're fortunate enough to have more than enough, give yourself a bit more room AND the joy of helping your fellow humans (and planet) by giving instead of wasting.
7. BPAL samples or advice -- It's so hard to choose scents without any in-person experience, and I'm pretty picky about smells! I have a tentative list of scents I think I'd like, so if you have any of those and didn't like them, I'd be glad for the chance to try them, and promise to pass along any that I find I dislike. Or recommend me something you think I'd like but somehow missed -- at the top of that list I've tried to outline my selling and sticking points when it comes to perfumery. :D
8. Fan art -- I'm in love with so many characters it's not even funny. Treize Kushrenada, Zechs Marquise, Sephiroth, Zack, Cloud, Aeris, Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Sydney Losstarot, Ashley Riot, Edward Elric, Alphonse Elric, Roy Mustang, Frank Archer, Zolf Kimberly, Qui-Gon Jinn, Han Solo, Lord Vetinari, Sam Vimes, Sybil Ramkin, Aziraphale, Crowley, Miles Vorkosigan/Admiral Naismith, Sergeant Bothari, Elena Bothari, Bel Thorne, Harimad-Sol, Aerin, Link (from Legend of Zelda)... Draw any of the above for me and I'll love you forever. (Slash and smut welcome, too -- all my favourite pairings are in my Interests.) :D
9. Direction in life -- because I still seem to be lacking it, and I'm twenty-bloody-four. I just don't feel any kind of real pull, any sense of "THAT is what I'd definitely be happy doing for at least ten years or so." And with one degree already and the start of another, it'd be nice to have that sorted out before I finish this one! Otherwise, I'm wasting time that I'll never get back, and lately I'm feeling that pulling at me. Life is passing me by, I'm tired of not being independent and self-determining.
I want to pay my own rent. I want a place of residence large enough to contain all my stuff, so my parents aren't storing most of my belongings; I want a job that I enjoy or at least like well enough and which pays enough to keep me in food and allow me to have said residence; I want the decision to have pets or paint walls or hold parties. I want to have enough in the bank that my card isn't declined at the bookstore when I come in for tea and a pretzel, as it was this evening. I want to do things like go to conventions, and have guests come in from out of town, without feeling like a teenager sneaking out of the house under her parents' noses.
And I feel totally helpless to actually accomplish any of that, because I have no idea WHAT the first step is. Not knowing what job I want, I don't know what degree I need, and I don't know where to ask what degree I need, and therefore am idling here in neutral, certain of the destination but without the faintest clue how to get there.
Erm, sorry for the angst there. Maybe I ought to put "somewhere to vent" in the #9 slot, instead. :D
10. A hummingbird's metabolism :D -- I gain weight if I so much as look at a chocolate bar, yet I'm always freezing! Clearly, the much-vaunted insulating properties of fat are exaggerated. What I really need is a metabolism that burns lots of fuel really fast, and converts it all into heat! :D Okay, it would make my grocery costs skyrocket, but on the other hand, think of how much I'd save in heating bills!
Thank you all for making this community such a wonderful example of selflessness! If you grant anything, please link me to your wishlist as well!
Ooops, and I almost forgot the most important bit! I can be reached at oddplaces @ gmail . com, spaces removed!
