Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
My wish list: In the spirit of
resonant8's request, my list has *things* on it. :D They're small things, however, since I honestly can't think of anything truly large or impressive that I want! My address is available in exchange for a quick email should you--for some odd reason--desire to answer a wish! (oddplaces at gmail dot com)
1. An icon with the smoke serpents from the chapter-heading image for OotP Chp. 22 (American edition, obviously; hardback, page 466). If you give me a couple weeks, I can scan it myself; if you don't want to wait and you have the facilities, that's fine, too. :D Either plain, or with "Fer-de-Lance" in tiny black font in the bottom corner.
2. Someone kind enough to make icons out of a couple of my doodles. I will scan them in a week or two and post a link. :D
3. Books or recommendations. Preferably slashy fantasy or sci-fi, but any good f/s-f would be lovely.
4. Feathers. Interesting feathers you have found (or stolen or raised or whatever). I love feathers--they're nature's jewelry. Plus, they're lightweight and can be pressed neatly inside a cheap card or two index cards for mailing.
5. Recipes for food that is terribly bad for me. Have one for a sinful quadruple-chocolate cake? Shortbread that takes two pounds of butter? Scones that dissolve on the tongue?
6. Fic recommendations. This includes anything from drabbles up to novels and series. (I read slash in several fandoms-- in HP, generally HP/SS or HP/RL; in TPM, generally Qui/Obi; in Sherlock Holmes, Holmes/Watson; in POTC, Jack/Will; and in From Eroica With Love, Klaus/Dorian.)
7. Snape or fannish sketches! Naughty or nice, a five-minute pencil scribble or something more detailed. (If "naughty," please safely enclose in an envelope!)
8. Tea. Send me a teabag from your favourite variety, or something you're afraid to try and want a willing test subject for.
9. Bizarre, unusual, handmade, or amusing postcards (G-rated, please). If there's poetry on them (yours or someone else's), that makes them even more interesting.
10. Chocolate. I like fancy chocolate especially (Valrhona "Le Lacte" 40% Cacao bars are especially lovely), but really any kind that I've never had before would be awesome. When it comes to chocolate, I am easy to please-- I like every kind of nut except cashews; dark, milk, or white chocolate; and any fruit or other fillings/addition besides caramel is just fine.
So, there's ten pretty simple wishes if anyone is inclined to be kind! (X-posted in
holiday_wishes.) Now, off to cruise everyone else's lists!
