More Legolas/Gimli recs to share! The sub-theme here is intercultural interaction. Or maybe it's outsider POV.
A Road Bright and Swift by Dorinda - After exploring the Glittering Caves and Fangorn, Legolas and Gimli are on the verge of becoming lovers, but haven't discussed their feelings. Legolas postpones their separation by following Gimly into Moria when Gimli decides to retrieve his kin's last records from the fallen city. They discover the courage to admit what each means to the other in the depths of Kazad-Dum, when it proves unexpectedly hazardous.
Falling and Ascending by lordnelson100 - Legolas and Gimli work at clearing the woods of lingering evils, and discover a horrific scene. Featuring a good creepy monster, Elf-Dwarf cooperation, and the practical application of Eldar immortality.
Between the mountains and the sea by Dalniente - Unfinished WIP, technically, but I think it works well as a standalone fic. Dwarvish music is designed for stone, and Legolas may be one of the first Elves to appreciate it in the proper setting.
From One Age to Another by Determamfidd - Returning to their respective homes proves unexpectedly complicated when their families accidentally catch sight of the tattoos they bear. I enjoy the emotional challenges of each father grappling with the changes in his son, and struggling to accept something they never expected.
Both the Sweet and the Bitter by determamfidd - She catches his gaze and holds it, and in his eyes is the knowledge of mortality, of its bitterness and its beauty. She knows that, too, from her own reflection. Arwen and Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli: Elves who love mortals, developing new perspective on time and change.
A Slow Thaw in Winter by lordnelson100 - When Gimli and Legolas come to Mirkwood, Legolas's family is surprised by the changes in him. Featuring a prickly but not inflexible Thranduil, an entire family of Dwarves, and outsider POV via Legolas's brother.
Degrees of Separation by Blossomwitch - Gimli's cousin explains how things really happened, when the most famous Dwarf of Erebor came home showing signs of lost love.
