Sometimes it really is all about the tropes. :D I haven't read the more recent books - in fact, I didn't know Jarlaxle had a canonical last name when I went on my fic binge - but that didn't stop me enjoying them, so hopefully you will, too!
(Jarlaxle is the hot bald dark elf in my post icon, if you need a reference. The first outfit we see him wear in canon involves a vest that bares his midriff, a fancy feathered hat, and a boatload of magical jewelry. He's a mercenary/information-broker with very few morals and a whole lot of sass, and he's exactly as fun a character as he sounds!)
