December Prompt Meme: Heraldic Gifts

kraitMy prompt for the 12th is from kowe: "If you could have one of the gifts/talents found in Mercedes Lackey's world, what would it be and why?"
Short answer: I wanna be a super-speshul little Heraldic snowflake with five Gifts!
Mindspeech - This one's almost a no-brainer; it'd be so awesome to be able to talk to people without having to see them! It appeals to my lazy side; I don't have to leave the couch in order to have conversations! It's like Skype except the call will never be dropped and the laptop never runs out of battery! It also appeals to my introversion; I think it'd be so much less draining to interact with people via Mindspeech instead of verbally, much the same way that texting and Dreamwidth are easier than face-to-face interaction. And it gets me in my curiosity, too - I'm fascinated by the whole issue of other people's minds and the ways they work, so getting to experience that personally would be really satisfying.
Animal Mindspeech - For much the same reasons as above, really. If only I knew why my dog won't stop barking at the wall or scratching her tail... and could effectively distract/reassure her in a way she'd understand! We as humans have spent SO MUCH of our time and brainpower theorising and guessing and experimenting and pondering what animals think and feel; imagine being able to draw a real conclusion!
Fetching - Because did I mention I was lazy? :D Telekinesis is the most useful power ever, bar none.Especially if one is an ethical telepath for whom "direct other people to fetch stuff for you" isn't an option. Obviously, the more I could lift, the better, since all telepaths are not created equal, but even if all I could do is fish a dropped earring out from behind the bookshelf or catch the falling socks as I haul a pile of laundry to the wash it's still incredibly handy! I imagine Heralds with the Fetching gift are always popular as friends. :D
Mage-gift - The most *versatile* gift, so who wouldn't want it? Heat your house when it's cold, stop rainy weather when you've had enough, create entire new sapient species in your spare time! Are you tired? Sip a little power from a ley line or node, and you're good for another fifty miles of hard riding. Are you boxed in by an inconsiderate fellow shopper's vehicle? Summon a wind to push it out of the way! Are you perpetually disappointed that fire-lizards don't exist? All you need is sufficient mage-gift, a steady supply of lizards, and voila: your very own little firebreathing shoulder decoration!
Healing - This is one Gift where I don't necessarily want a huge amount of it; I just want enough for emergencies and for handling minor repairs/corrections. Probably the main thing I'd do with my Healing Gift is ensure that I never have to menstruate again, to be honest! Aside from that? It'd be nice to be able to patch up the various scratches and bites from work and make my fencing bruises fade faster; and be able, in the case of an emergency of more epic proportions (fellow diner having heart attack, etc.) to supply that extra boost that could tip the balance. I've never had any interest in a human-healing career, but I have worked with wildlife and still do work with domestic animals, and the Healing Gift is fortunately not species-specific in Lackey's world, so that would be an amazing ability to have!
