Homestuck is a goldmine for these moments! There are pyrope garnets in the Chicago Field Museum's gem room, and it's all I can do to keep a straight face.

The silly online pixel dragon game I play has garnet-based dragons, called Pyralspite dragons. There's a Pyrope Pyralspite version, which has definitely influenced my naming. :D
