I just finished Episode 41!
I love everyone in this entire show, seriously.
* The Emperor is officially The Best at disgruntled noises; he runs out of words and just aggressively huffs or grunts at people, very expressively! I'm impressed at the actor's ability to convey so much emotion without even speaking. Also I about died laughing during that multiple-episode stretch where everybody the Emperor spoke to told him "calm down" or "stay calm" with varying degrees of nerves! No wonder his favourite consort is medically trained, because I cringe to consider what his blood pressure must be like.
* Either Jingyan is getting too good at playing dumb, or the Emperor's right that someone needs to sit him down for some Intrigue 101 lessons! Even I couldn't tell if his innocent bewilderment at being encouraged to visit Su Zhe was real. (Well, obviously the 'I've spoken to him once' bit was false; but was it just Jingyan covering his history with Su Zhe, or was he really unsure why the Emperor recommended visiting him?)
* Commander Meng is still the biggest sweetheart on earth and I don't even know what clinched that title: him awkwardly trying to comfort Xia Dong in prison, or him laughing his way through a sparring match with Fei Liu and ruffling his hair. <3 If this show has a cinnamon roll: too good, too pure for this world character at all, it's definitely Meng.
* Consort Jing UP! Consort Yue DOWN. Hooray. Also I love the friendship between Jing and Hui.
* Speaking of: who does not need lessons in intrigue? Consort Jing is the consummate master. Even Su Zhe should lay down his laurels at her feet. I almost choked when she managed to 'innocently' give the Emperor the idea to put Jingting in charge of the investigation!
* The costume porn continues. It might even be *costume porn intensifies* at this point. Everywhere I look, beautiful clothes that I can't have but still desire with all my heart!
* Except on Xia Zhiang, whose prison wear serves him right. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
* Qing is still an adorable baby bunny, but he appears to have received some of the intrigue lessons that Jingyan didn't sign up for. I was very impressed by his handling of Prince Ji, and then he topped it by evading a determined Jingyan! :D Good boy.
* Doctor Yan is the only sane and reasonable person in this entire cohort, and I think he might be my soulmate.I'm so tempted to call him Dr. Qui-Gon! I scare the cats laughing when he interacts with his patient. Give one more order and I'll make you mute! And then their bickering during the Meng-Fei Liu fight when he stalked off!
* WHOA: Baby Mei Changsu looks like a Pomeranian puppy! Not enough body to balance all the fluff. Baby Jingyan looks princely enough, though.
Anyway, suffice to say that I'm still enthralled and am doing much better at picking up names (but whhhyyyyyyy does everybody have to be named something with 'Jin' or 'Jing' in it?!?! Prince Jing/Jingyan, Consort Jing, Jinrui, Yujin, Jingting...) but still amuse myself by coming up with descriptive nicknames as well. One day I should make a post with the nicknames and pictures, in the style of FFA's 'Explain This Canon By Fannish Osmosis' threads.
If anyone knows where to find NiF icons, please point the way! I made the one above in a hurry, but I am not an artist in any medium, and there must be better ones out there.

Date: 2019-01-12 10:48 am (UTC)Consort Jing's title is a different character (静 instead of 景), and pronounced differently (4th tone instead of 3rd tone). Prince Jing's title is pronounced identically to his mother's title, but written with a different character (靖). (In case you want to look up the characters used and any potential dictionary meaning, I have a post on that.)
Iconwise, I made a lot exactly a year ago!

Date: 2019-01-13 05:38 am (UTC)I'm going to blame Yujin (and Consort Jing) for throwing me off; I did notice that most of the Jings were in the first half of the name, but those two clouded the issue. (Along with the various "Ji" names, such as Xia Jiang and Prince Ji. All the Ji/Jin/Jing sort of blended together in my brain.)

Date: 2019-01-13 05:35 am (UTC)So dumb, occasionally.Consort Hui seems like another candidate, on the distaff side; I wish there was a little more of her hanging out being BFFs with Consort Jing, because I really was intrigued by the fact that apparently they're the only two "sister consorts" who actually are friendly and help each other.
