I resisted it for months! At first genuinely, and then reflexively because the canon is massive and I just don't want to commit to that (may not even be able to commit to that) and now it is totally on my to-do list and moving up in rank every day. There's a file of plotbunny scribbles on my hard drive. I have read at least 13 of the 17 kinkmemes. I can probably recite parts of the wiki. I have drawn myself in Homestuck form, which I haven't done for a fandom since I was, like, six and pretending to be a purple pegasus. [Yeah, I'm an 80s kid and My Little Pony was my first fandom!)
While there are a number of points that hit me square in the Do Not Want (a large part of my initial resistance was based on the Non-Mammalian Mammaries!; most of the fandom is on Tumblr, which I dislike because I cannot grok it; large parts of it are told in chatlog form with atrocious grammatical quirks), it is also packed full of things I cannot resist. There are nonhumans with claws, horns, and multicoloured blood! They have a biological caste system that several members nonetheless disavow! They have a concept of romance that lies at an obtuse angle to ours! Some of them have gills!
There are enough time shenanigans that people don't seem to blink at fics set in "whenever, hypothetically both species are together now, call it an alternate/doomed timeline, I dunno" so that there can be ALL THE PAIRINGS.
There is a fandom like this. There are also, apparently, a bevy of amazing cosplayers and artists, though I'm still in the process of discovering these.
If you want a more coherent summary, I will try to dig up the really great one someone posted on a Tumblr somewhere. Coherence is not my forte right now; I'm in that "dragged into a new and active fandom" and that means primarily flailing is my forte right now. :D

Date: 2012-04-11 09:49 pm (UTC)It is, more or less, a webcomic. With some pages being animated sequences, or even interactive games.
Or so those who have braved the 5,000+ pages seem to be telling me.
