Heh. Julian does like to tempt fate... and, apparently, the imaginations of slashers!

Of course, it's too bad that (spoiler for MttS) Gronningen buys it, because otherwise? Epic tension-relieving hatesex! Erm, bonding-type hatesex. Erm. It's Space Marines, man! Even if you hate your fellow grunt, he's still your strong right hand and has your back... Right up against a wall, if the slashers have their way. Ahem!

Also can I just say how awesome it is that someone-who-is-not-me has read this series? Because I totally wasn't expecting that! :D

*laughs* Oh, J and G would be /epic/. Marine-style practical joke sex, oh my god. Is it very bad of me that I instantly imagine Julian deliberately baiting G purely in order to get fucked good and hard?

It's the only series of Ringo's that I can actually stand to read! Weber mitigates some of his worst habits (namely graphically torturing his female characters). It's a crying shame, because I love the worldbuilding of the Aldenata series. *sighs* Oh, John Ringo. No.

Haha, it would be epic! I sort of imagine Julian shoving Gronningen into a bed as retaliation for the off-the-mountain stunt; "not very scary, Julian" -- followed by shock-tactics kissing and groping. Possibly handcuffs. And the displaying of practical-joke-sized 'toys' quickly followed by a blindfold? :D

Then for revenge Gronningen could, I dunno, "accidentally" set the gravity too high, to stick Julian to the floor, then haul him off and have his way with him, erm, "good and hard"? :D Hahaha, "space marine revenge sex" would HAVE to be listed as a tag!

Oh, and what you said re: Ringo. I haven't read any of his other novels, but let's just say that I Hear Things, yeah? I read March Upcountry etc. before I knew The Skeevy Things About Ringo, but I won't give him any more of my money or time than I have unknowingly.

Plus, I think you're right about Weber helping to cancel out the worst of Ringo. As the Harrington series suggests to me that Weber has a massive hardon for strong military women (note the fact that he couldn't let Honor die or even pine as he'd planned, but instead wrenched a fairytale happy romantic ending onto her story), he's probably the reason no one gets raped (by horny demons Mardukan primitives, or the corrupt governor?), or sacrificed to the Fire God of the Krath, or, well, fill in the blanks.
