book week meme

Nabbed from [personal profile] pebblerocker:

It's international book week. The rules: Grab the closest book to you, turn to page 52, post the 5th sentence. Don't mention the title. Copy the rules as part of your post.

"You run a ship, you get odd hours."

Alternately, since I in fact have two books within arm's reach, essentially equidistant:

"I slipped a round stake into the animal's groin and stationed the two biggest men at either end of it, then I fastened a rope above the fetlock and gave the other end to Mr. Preston and the remaining two Germans."

Ahh. The anatomical terminology should have been a clue, but the Germans threw me off a bit. They're not what springs to mind when I think of Herriot!
