This year I've made a number of nebulous resolutions, primarily for my real life but also in the fannish sphere. (Some of the former may interfere with the some of the latter, and some of which might aid it; we'll see.)

Mostly I want to comment more - I used to be a person who commented! Reliably, and even frequently! I miss that. Especially with the general slow decline of other forms of fannish conversation. Practically speaking, I left a comment the other day somewhere, and it felt good; I want that feeling again!

I also want to write more; every year I look at my AO3 stats and (usually) blush at the small output that 365 days has amounted to, but this year was a new low. Yes, I've learnt that WIP stories are Not For Me, but the price of that knowledge comes rather high, which is to say that realising I've only managed three-tenths of a single story in a year is depressing.

The last one is a growing need to personalise and expound upon my AO3 bookmarks. A list isn't nearly as helpful as a rec list; I need to be noting why I bookmarked a story and what other people might get out of it, not just saving a pile of titles. If I wanted only that, I can tap CTRL+B and start scrolling, no login needed! (Also because I've been reading back through them lately and I'm disturbed by the number of deleted works that have cropped up! Without any kind of note-to-self on those works, I don't know what they were, and there's no way to find out where those fics went...)

Has anyone else made fandom-specific resolutions so far this year?

comments

I had to think of something positive to post about, because what I first wanted to post was a crotchety-old-fangirl complaint about MPreg... but even through my crotchetiness I could recognise that that's not how I want to start off a new year.

I will also refrain from discussion of how a Pottersues thread just made me seriously question my positions on parental authority and What Children Read. (That will take more thinking-over.)

So! Positive things!

I am still trying to get through all the things I bookmarked from Yuletide, so my fic cup runneth over. :D

In RL I am frantically busy trying to wrap up a thousand things, so I haven't had much time for fannishness, but I'm more-than-halfway resolved that this year I will up the number of Fics I Have Written to a nice, even 10. Staring at that ugly "7" on my AO3 dashboard is just unpleasant. *makes face* I spend way too much time staring at my AO3 page. Way back when I was a bitty, isolated fan just discovering fic, I never dreamt that I would actually write any! Much less that I would write a Yuletide fic and get comments! I now understand other writers's love of comments more than I used to, though I think (hope) I'm still not quite as obsessive as some get...

Actually, I think I'm pretty unlikely to get out of hand, given I haven't even posted about the Yuletide fic I wrote. :D I meant to! *sheepish* If you're interested, go here and then go read -- that first link is almost the entirety of the canon, so it's not hard to get into. (However, there's lots more amazing stuff by this fabulous artist, and I tried to incorporate some of it in the fic but even if I failed you should check her out!)

Let's see, can I think of anything else?

Nope, I think that's it for this post. :D

comments
